ADOPT-A-COP, Sunday, April 28
One of our officers will be at our service to share the importance of our prayers for the officers. This year we will again collect new stuffed animals for the officers to give to children who are in the midst of a family crisis or taken from their home. Also, our next note to our officer is due in the office on Sunday, June 2nd. Our prayers are appreciated by our officers and I get such positive comments when I deliver the notes to the East District Office.

CKC will include initiatives focused on clean water, health and hygiene, food and agriculture, education and literacy, and economic development through child sponsorship. 11:00am Mission St. Paul Good Friday CrossWalk: A Walk of Humility and Repentance - Groups will gather at 11:00 AM at four locations along University and Dale. Each group will pray and walk towards the center of Ward 1 in St. Paul, ending at the location of the former Rock of Ages Church at Sherburne Ave. and Dale Street, just north of University Avenue. From Noon - 1:00 PM there will be a public prayer gathering and words of encouragement and challenge from Alex Seidler, a Christian leader in China with Campus Target. His parents have been instrumental in a powerful movement of prayer in the city of Newark, NJ. (Map & more information here).

This year’s musical is called CHRISTMAS IS HERE TO STAY! Many traditional Christmas songs were selected and Carolyn Oliver has written a script based on this selection, which covers the various traditions of Santa Claus, Frosty the Snow Man, Rudolph, the Christmas Tree along with the spirit and values of sharing, giving and believing, ending with the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Christ. We have 108 children signed up and the excitement is growing. We want to thank all those who have signed up to help volunteer in the many areas needed to make this production possible.
FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN (6th-12th graders)

Meet at First Covenant Church, head to Feed My Starving Children in Eagan. Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God’s children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: we help to hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and FMSC ships the meals to nearly 70 countries around the world. It’s a free night of service for the first 40 youth to sign up. Sign up on the youth bulletin board if you plan on attending.
COMMUNION CLASS, Saturday, November 3rd, 10:00am, join us for a one hour communion class geared for 4th - 8th graders and parents interested in learning more about the meaning and practice of the sacrament of holy communion. We will be incorporating into worship the following day, Sunday, November 4th, a recognition of these young people who have attended the class and who will be partaking in holy communion with the rest of the congregation. The annual 80+ Birthday Party is hosted by the Congregational Life Commission. The party is for members of First Covenant who are 80 years and older. Invitations are also extended to those at Bethany Home in Minneapolis, the Block Nurse Program staff and First Covenant staff. The event includes lunch and entertainment. It’s a great time for fellowship for many who can no longer get to church on a regular basis – a time when they can see and visit their church friends. Rides are provided if needed. This will be a night of entertainment where members of our church will be singing favorite Broadway tunes directed by Jorge Martinez and Richard Voth. Christian Community Development Association (CCDA) National Conference, September 26-29

Each year, the Christian Community Development Association (CCDA) National Conference draws over 3,000 people from around the world to share in the best practices of Christian Community Development. 6th ANNUAL ADOPT-A-COP SUNDAY, Sunday, April 29, during and after worship
We are working with Commander Kevin Casper to have at least one officer at our service to share a greeting and give thanks for the prayers being offered on behalf of our 35 officers. It is a privilege to remember our officers each day with prayer and to send them a short note of encouragement every three months. There will be an opportunity to sign up for this ministry of prayer for an officer on this special day. Help the officers as they enter into domestic situations, where children are frightened or taken from their family, by donating a stuffed animal. There will be a box near the Welcome Center to collect these gifts. We will present them to an officer on April 29th. (After Easter there are a lot of cute animals on sale!)

Volunteers from First Covenant Church and Cross Lutheran will share their successful rain garden projects. Winter seems to last forever in Minnesota, which is a drag, unless you have some wonderful winter activities to look forward to! Join us this winter at the Covenant-owned Adventurous Christians Camp located off the Gunflint Trail in Grand Marais, MN. Activities include snowshoeing, cross country skiing, a sauna, jumping in a frozen lake (if you dare), eating delicious home cooked meals, relaxing in a warm lodge, and just enjoying God’s amazing, northern Minnesota creation. What a blessing this endeavor has been for everyone! It has been so moving to see children, youth and adults joining together to sing in the Gospel Choir, and in December they will have the opportunity to participate in the Candlelight Service, December 24 at 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to participate; simply come to the rehearsal on the Wednesday, before the performance date on December 21st from 7:45 to 8:15 pm.

We will meet at church where teams will be formed then sent out to carol for homebound members of our church, nursing homes and throughout our church neighborhood in general. We’ll meet up at Pastor Anne and Gordy’s, 1108 Hyacinth Ave., for hot homemade chili and a great time together.

CURTISS DEYOUNG PREACHING (Sunday, December 11, 9:20am)
Curtiss Paul DeYoung is a professor of reconciliation studies at Bethel University in St. Paul, MN. Prior to his current position, he served for seventeen years in urban multicultural settings in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota as the president of the Twin Cities Urban Reconciliation Network (TURN), the executive director of the City Gate Project, and the senior pastor at a multiracial congregation. Reverend DeYoung has also served at congregations in Washington, DC, and Harlem, New York. He is an ordained minister in the Church of God (headquarters in Anderson, IN).

DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE (Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7:00pm)

This isn’t your Gramma’s idea of Swedish singers! The performers, five Swedish musicians and vocalists who have been performing together since 2002, are touring in the USA. Singing in English, they present a mix of pop, jazz, soul, and hymns. Some pieces have a country/folk feel, while on others they sound like the Manhattan Transfer. Come, listen, and enjoy a great evening in the sanctuary. A free will offering will be taken and a reception will follow.

Farnsworth Update: Did you know that on September 23, 75 cookies were decorated as encouraging gifts from our youth ministry to the teachers, staff and administrators at Farnsworth Aerospace PreK-4? Over 20 youth and adult leaders assembled these simple care packages to help start the school year off on a positive note. Stay tuned for ways that you can be involved in simple acts of service to Farnsworth in November!
