Paul Carlson Partnership - Celebrating 50 years of service to the DRC

2014 is the 50th anniversary of the tragic martyrdom of Dr. Paul Carlson, a Covenant medical missionary to what is now known as the Democratic Republic of Congo. As a young doctor, husband, and father Paul Carlson stepped away from a promising medical career to answer a call from God to minister to the health needs of the Congolese people. In a violent political uprising, Paul lost his life in serving God and his fellow man. This fall FCC will be remembering Dr. Carlson's life, service and sacrifice in multiple ways. On November 2 we will have a Paul Carlson Sunday and learn about the story of the Covenant in Congo, and how Covenant mission work continues there. FCC is also exploring how we can partner with others to support the Congo Clinic Initiative and improve the quality of medical care. Finally, Pastor Anne's sermon series in the winter months will focus on how we can Be the Light and we can do this in the Congo through the Paul Carlson partnership.

At First Covenant, we believe that God has called us to share the love of Christ through compassionate service and mission. We provide a variety of ways that people can give and serve locally and globally by donating items, giving time and gifts and learning more about what it means to be united by faith. For more information about Local + Global Outreach please contact Mike Verdoorn mikeverdoorn@gmail.com.

Some of the many ways we live out compassionate service at First Covenant: tutoring, transportation ministry, Union Gospel Mission grocery bags, donating food and serving meals at the local Salvation Army, donations and volunteering at the Alley Shoppe, supporting global missionaries, donating money to Covenant World Relief, leading mission trips and praying for our world.
